Bereavement Grieving Adults
Grieving Adults

Individuals experiencing grief from a loss may choose a variety of ways to express it. No two people will respond to the same loss in the same way. Experiencing, accepting and expressing all feelings remain an important part of the healing process.

We offer adult bereavement support groups several times per year (see below). The group meets once per week for 2 hours in each 8 week session. In addition a trained volunteer bereavement team is available for telephone outreach and follow-up, offering support and resources for up to one year following the death of a family member at the individual’s request.

The following are some guidelines that may help resolve grief:

  • Allow time to experience thoughts and feelings.
  • Acknowledge and accept all feelings, both positive and negative.
  • Use a journal to document the healing process.
  • Confide in a trusted individual.
  • Express feelings (crying offers a release).
  • Join a bereavement group; this provides an opportunity to share with others who have experienced loss.
  • If the healing process becomes too overwhelming, seek professional help.
